MSF Racing 2019 Regulations – Categories

IMPORTANT NOTES
– ALL CATEGORIES are to run with the control tyre from the Official Tyre Partner. There is no exception for any car or category. Official Tyre Partner will be announced very soon
–  Saga Cup category falls under ‘Race Car categories’ regulations
– The 0.5% tolerance for engine capacity calculation has been implemented. This is in par with several other international series.

Example: 1900cc +9.5cc; 1600cc + 8cc; 1500cc +7.5cc; etc

WebMSF-STREETcats

Super Production 
4-wheeled production based car, Front/Mid/Rear Engine, FWD/RWD/4WD cars below 1500cc. The production Model must have 4 seats
Must be from a Model with a production minimum of 2,500 cars, from a production family of ‘siblings’ with a production minimum of 5,000 cars.
Engine has a production minimum of 2,500 from the manufacturers ‘siblings’.
The model of which was in production in the year 2006 onwards. Vehicle models produced before 2006 are not permitted.
The ‘sibling’ and model being made available for sale in any country world wide.
– Myvi, Jazz, Swift, Vios, City, Vitz etc

Super 1500 NA
Front/Mid/Rear Engine, FWD/RWD /4WD cars below 1500cc, high volume unibody monocoque chassis and saloon-body only. (Lotus Elise/Exige/ Ariel Atom/KTM X-Bow/Radical etc do not qualify). No Rotary Engined cars. Strictly naturally aspirated engines only.

Proton 1800 NA
PROTON car and engine vehicles only, must be a production-based PROTON vehicle; up to 1899cc, naturally-aspirated engines utilising original production PROTON-type engine parts only (MIVEC heads not permitted); street-based vehicles only.
– Campro SP4H engined cars may also race in this category
– ‘Frankenstein’ jobs such as a PROTON Gen2 with a 4G93P engine is permitted in this category

Street Tuned Limited
Special equivalency formula saloon car category:
Front Engine, FWD/RWD /4WD cars, high volume unibody monocoque chassis and saloon-body only. Below is listed the specific capacities and engines permitted:
a) Forced induction
– non-variable valve timing up to 1600cc (turbo or super);
with variable valve timing up to 1500cc (turbo or super).
Turbochargers are restricted to the following:
i) original OEM turbochargers that are specific to the engine that is being used in the car;
ii) TD04 turbochargers with original TD04 housing OR T25 turbochargers with original T25 housing;  original housing inlet may be bored-out;
iii)  if anything other than the above, the turbocharger must be submitted for inspection and tagging, and is limited to similar turbocharger size to that of the TD04 /T25.
b) Naturally aspirated with following limitations:
i) 4-valve and 5-valve per cylinder engines up to 1900cc,
ii) 2-valve and 3-valve per cylinder engines up to 2500cc,
iii) Mazda rotary-engine up to 1308cc (maximum 2 rotors only) peripheral port not permitted,
iv) Honda B-Series engines limited to 1700cc only. Take note that this refers to effective engine capacity. Effectively one could run 83mm bore with 78mm stroke (1688cc). Anything more than 1700cc and not permitted.
v) Other Variable Valve Timing engines are permitted to the maximum 1900cc ie MIVEC, VVTI, VANOS, etc
c) Diesel turbos up to 2000cc permitted
d) Hybrids: only OEM production hybrid vehicles and systems permitted. One-for-one engine capacity with NA petrol equivalent, therefore limited to maximum 1900cc.
e) Other specific vehicle types may be permitted with future ASR releases

Street 1600 Limited
This shall be a sub-category under Street Tuned and limited to all the same specifics with the following additional addenda:
a) Limited to naturally aspirated engines only. No hybrid or forced induction permitted
b) Honda B-Series are now permitted.
c) Other Variable Valve Timing engines are permitted; no rotary engines; forced induction not permitted.

SuperStreet Limited
SuperStreet category is targeted at ‘bigger’ capacity cars that have bigger ‘presence’. Regulations are controlled to limit spending and modifications, with the simple ruling that entries are permitted on a case-by-case basis. Technical guidelines include:
a) Saloon cars only; Supercars not permitted; Sportscars on a case-by-case basis upon application
b) Naturally-aspirated non-VTEC up to 1900cc – 4500cc; other forms of variable valve timing permitted
c) Forced induction: 4-cylinder engines 1750cc to 2000cc non-VTEC; 6-cylinder engines up to 2500cc non-VTEC
Turbochargers are limited to the following:
i) original OEM turbochargers that are specific to the engine that is being used in the car;
ii) TD05 turbochargers with original TD05 housing OR T28 turbochargers with original T28 housing; original housing inlet may be bored-out;
iii)  if anything other than the above, the turbocharger must be submitted for inspection and tagging, and is limited to similar turbocharger size to that of the TD05 /T28.
d) Honda vehicles:
i) B-series limited to 1800cc – 2200cc only naturally-aspirated, and up to 1800cc turbocharged with TD05 / T28 turbocharger only
ii) Other Honda engines limited to 2200cc naturally-aspirated only
iii) Honda Civic models older than the Civic EG body are not permitted (EG onwards only)
e) Sizes 17-inch and above only.
Vehicles permitted would include (for example) BMW E36 & E46 M3, E36 with 1JZ, E30 3.5L; Honda FD2R, DC5R; Lancer Evos, Subaru WRXs and STIs; Nissan Silvias, VW Golfs and Sciroccos, Renault Meganes; Altezzas with 1JZ, Cefiros with RB25 or VH45, Toyota AE86 with F20C, Proton Putra with 4G63T, Honda Integra DC2 with a K20, Honda Civic EK with a K20, Honda Civic EG with a B20, a Starlet EP91 with a 3s turbo.
Not permitted (for example) are Hondas running K-series engines with increased capacities, Civic EF, Lancer Evos and Subaru WRXs with super-duper turbocharging and boost, anything with an RB26DETT or 2JZ.

Street 2000 Limited
This shall be a sub-category under Super Street and limited to all the same specifics with the following additional addenda:
a) Limited to naturally aspirated engines only; minimum 1900cc and maximum 2000cc. No hybrid or forced induction permitted. 3-box saloon car body only, 2-door and 4-door permitted (includes Coupes and Fastbacks); 2-box hatchbacks not permitted.
b) Honda VTEC not permitted.
c) Other Variable Valve Timing engines are permitted; no rotary engines; forced induction not permitted.

Saga Cup

1984-2005 Saga cars below 1500cc. Strictly naturally aspirated engines only. Gearbox OEM Proton Saga gearbox with original clutch engagement; Gear ratios may be modified, Final Drive ratio may be changed. LSDs, Dog Engagement & Straight Cut gears are not allowed. OEM brake caliper & disc rotors must be retained; vented front disc & rear brake disc systems are not allowed; adjustable suspension top mountings are not allowed; suspension hard points must remain standard; suspension bushings may be replaced with harder material however rose-jointed / spherical bearings not permitted. OEM single carburettor with OEM inlet manifold only; original distributor required, no electronic ignition.

 

Race Cars Open, 1800, and 1600
FIA-spec competition-prepared cars. Saloon-based, minimum production 2500 units per calendar year. No supercars. Application and approval of a participating vehicle is on a case-by-case basis.
Low Volume Sportscars will be categorised in Open Class. No street cars permitted.
There are 2 sub categories:
a) Open Class: Above 1900cc – 6000cc; supercars and sportscars not permitted
b) 1800 Class: 1900cc and below
c) 1600 Class: limited to cars manufactured from 2006 onwards, 1600cc and below
Race Cars category follows FIA-rulings on specifications, engine capacity, and safety. For SNF we adopt the following equivalency formulas:
i) forced induction engines and rotary engines capacity multiply by 1.7
ii) diesel turbo engines capacity almost similar to maximum allowed for petrol variant, thus Race Cars Open Class maximum engine capacity of 6000cc, and Race Cars 1800 Class maximum engine capacity of 2000cc.
Announcement of the ‘Professor Dr Khalid Bin Abdul Kadir Cup’, an annual Challenge trophy for the Race Cars Open category (‘Prof Khalid Cup’ for short). Champion Team and Driver will be etched into the trophy for posterity at the end of the season, with a small replica trophy to be awarded to the Team.
